Description
This gene encodes a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. The encoded protein is a ligand of the T lymphocyte CD2 protein, and functions in adhesion and activation of T lymphocytes. The protein is localized to the plasma membrane. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
Bio-activity
Measured in a cell proliferation assay using human CD3+ T cells in the presence of anti-CD3. Kanner, S.B. et al. (1992) J. Immunol. 148:2023. The ED50 for this effect is 1-4 μg/mL in the presence of anti-CD3 immobilized at 20 ng/mL. For carrier-free vials, the Recombinant Human CD58/LFA-3 (rhCD58) is directly coated to plates. For vials containing carrier, plates are coated with 5 μg/mL Mouse Anti-polyHistidine Monoclonal Antibody before rhCD58 is added.
