Description

The protein encoded by this gene is expressed on the surface of T cells. It regulates B cell function by engaging CD40 on the B cell surface. A defect in this gene results in an inability to undergo immunoglobulin class switch and is associated with hyper-IgM syndrome.

Measured in a cell proliferation assay using mouse splenic B cells in the presence of IL-4. Banchereau, J. et al. (1991) Science 251:70. The ED50 for this effect is 0.07-0.35 ng/mL in the presence of a cross-linking antibody, Mouse Anti-Hemagglutinin/HA Peptide Monoclonal Antibody.
