Enables cytokine activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including negative regulation of meiotic nuclear division; positive regulation of peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation; and tyrosine phosphorylation of STAT protein. Predicted to be located in extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including dorsal aorta; future spinal cord; liver; reproductive system; and submandibular gland. Orthologous to human OSM (oncostatin M).
